BELONG
[Creating Community]

Nurturing, empowering, and reaching out are most effective when a sense of community is developed. Creating a safe environment where any participant feels comfortable being herself is vital to ministering to others whether the relationship is as brief as one encounter or as long as best friends forever!

Creating community is about making spaces that are free from Adventist jargon, judgmental attitudes, and exclusivity. Think about Jesus’ ministry while on earth. He daily interacted with people from all walks of life – rich and poor, educated and uneducated, healthy and sick, from the right and wrong side of the tracks! He did not differentiate between the haves and the have-nots. He was not a respector of human-defined value. This is the very same way we are called to minister to those God places on our path.

New York Conference Women's Ministries Department Goals

  • Conduct events in a safe, non-judgmental, nurturing manner

  • Provide training to raise awareness of community development practices

  • Model creating community in all interactions

  • Model and promote development of real, vulnerable, safe, Abba-filled and focused relationships

Local church Women's Ministries teams and individuals are encouraged to create their own specific goals and methods for Reaching Up, Reaching Across,Reaching Out, and Creating Community.
